Prof. Dr. Kanwal Khalid

Prof. Dr. Kanwal Khalid is a distinguished Pakistani scholar, academic, researcher, and art historian with extensive contributions to art education, cultural heritage, archives, and research. She is the recipient of the Best Teacher’s Award 2026 by the Government of Punjab in recognition of her outstanding academic excellence and dedication to higher education.
She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Graphic Design, followed by an MPhil and PhD specializing in Miniature Painting. Throughout her distinguished career in public service, she has held key positions in the Civil Secretariat, educational institutions, and the Protocol Department of the Government of Punjab. She also served as Keeper of the Painting Collection at the Lahore Museum, where she contributed significantly to the preservation and documentation of Pakistan’s artistic heritage.

Prof. Dr. Khalid has designed and developed educational materials for UNESCO and the Government of Japan. She was selected for advanced academic training under a French Government program and has received prestigious grants from the College Art Association (CAA), USA, and the Getty Foundation, USA. She has represented Pakistan internationally by presenting research papers and delivering scholarly talks in France, Italy, Turkey, India, the United States (Washington, New York, Delaware, Chicago, and Los Angeles), and at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

She has served as adjunct faculty at several leading universities, including the University of the Punjab, National Education Policy Academy (NEPA), Forman Christian College University, Beaconhouse National University (BNU), National College of Arts (NCA), University of Home Economics, Lahore College for Women University, Institute for Art and Culture (IAC), Lahore, and Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, Quetta. She is also a member of the Academic Council of the University of Home Economics and Punjab Tianjin University of Technology, Lahore.

An accomplished researcher, Prof. Dr. Khalid has authored more than 40 national and international research publications. She co-authored Punjab Archives: From Mughal to Colonial Era and is the author of Picture Wall of Lahore Fort: The Longest Mosaic Kashi Wall in the World and Between Light and Memory: The Glass Plate Negatives of Lahore. She served as Director, Punjab Archives, where she successfully led the landmark project for the Digitization, Preservation, and Modernization of the Punjab Archives and Libraries Wing (S&GAD).

In addition to her responsibilities as a full-time professor, she supervises MPhil and PhD research scholars at the University of the Punjab. She also serves as a History Advisor to the Walled City of Lahore Authority and the Aga Khan Culture Service Pakistan, contributing her expertise to heritage conservation and historical research.

Prof. Dr. Khalid is a prominent public intellectual and media personality. She has appeared as a subject specialist in PTV’s Art CafĂ© and regularly presents educational talk shows on Express TV, FM 95 Radio, and SUNO TV (Punjabi). She is also the creator and host of Pakistan’s first YouTube vlog dedicated to teaching Art History, making art education accessible to a wider audience.

Widely recognized for her expertise in research methodology, academic writing, and synopsis development, Prof. Dr. Kanwal Khalid has successfully supervised numerous theses, research papers, and research proposals. She has mentored students and scholars seeking admission and scholarship opportunities at leading international universities, helping them develop high-quality academic and research portfolios.
